The anti-double stranded DNA or anti-dsDNA antibody test is a type of test which helps in diagnosing antibodies present in DNA strands. This is a very specific test used for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) because these antibodies are not found in any other autoimmune disorders or diseases.

An ANA test is the first test performed for the evaluation of auto-immune disorder. A positive ANA test can mean about 95% of lupus cases and can be seen in many other conditions as well. If a person has positive ANA, an anti-ds DNA test can be used to classify lupus from other auto-immune disorders having similar signs and symptoms.

Clinical laboratory in Jalandhar cant. states that the anti-dsDNA test can also be used to assess the activity with the case which has been diagnosed with lupus. This test may also be used to monitor lupus nephritis (a series of complications of lupus causing kidney damage and inflammation). Which can lead to a high level of protein release in urine, high blood pressure, and kidney failure which occurs due to the binding of autoantibodies and antigens which were long been deposited in kidneys.

Covid sample collection in Jalandhar recommends this test when a person shows the signs of lupus or had a positive result of ANA test, especially in “homogenous” or “speckled” fluorescent pattern.

Some listed symptoms or signs of lupus are:

  • Muscle pain
  • Arthritis-like pain in joint with no damage
  • Frequent red rashes resembling butterflies across nose and cheek areas
  • Fever with low-grade
  • Fatigue, weakness
  • Skin sensitivity to light
  • Hair and weight loss
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
  • Damage and inflammation in organs and tissues like kidneys, lungs, heart, the lining of heart, CNS, and blood vessels.

A very low level of antibodies is considered negative excluding lupus diagnosis,

Clinical laboratory in Jalandhar cant. suggests having frequent or continuous testing in case the disease or issues get severe and to keep it in check. There are many healthcare programs you can get in laboratories to keep a record of your health.
